If you’re a looking for a franchise to invest in and happen to be a gearhead, designer, or otherwise interested in a related field, you should consider opening a vehicle wrap business.

But why invest in such a niche business? What types of opportunity do you really have in such a unique corner of the market?

Actually, probably more than you’d think.

Vehicle Wraps Are Popular

But don’t take our word for it: the over $30 billion dollars spent every year in the automotive aftermarket speaks for itself.

The perks of car wraps are aplenty, and while some customers will purchase them solely for the design and style aspect, the majority of customers are mainly focused in the marketing field, where they turn their vehicles into traveling billboards.

According to the Outdoor Advertising Association of America (OAAA), greater than 95 percent of Americans are reached by media targeting vehicle drivers and passengers.

Todd Stuart, president of SignZoo.com, told Intuit Quickbooks that the vehicle wraps often help small businesses feel legitimized by getting their brand and logo out into the public on the scale that a much larger company might and where countless customers can see them.

Of course, these vehicle wraps do more than just make you feel good. They work, too. In fact, the OAAA estimates that mobile advertising can be “the most effective and efficient form of out of home advertising, reaching more consumers at a lower cost per thousand impressions than any other form of advertising.”

Stuart estimates that a wrap costs about four cents per thousand impressions. In comparison, billboards cost approximately $3.56 per thousand, while newspaper ads cost a whopping $19.70 per thousand impressions. He adds that one wrapped vehicle can net up to 80,000 impressions per day, and that it costs roughly $44 per million impressions – quite a bargain.

So what’s the average return on investment? It’s nearly impossible to pinpoint given the numerous variables. But Stuart cited one customer who tracked his sales and saw an increase of over $175,000 in just 10 months due to his wrapped trucks.
